People & Lifestyle

As a residential community, there is no real commercialization in Hyannis Port. The small town center is really just a strip containing a local post office and convenience store. Residents appreciate this idyllic town because it’s very quiet, with just a few hundred homes and residences. Homes tend to be on the more luxurious side, often in the million-dollar range. It’s a nice town to settle down for those seeking a peaceful respite or for golfers seeking access to one of the Cape’s premier golf courses at the Hyannisport Club.

Things to Do

The Kennedy Compound consists of three houses across six acres. This waterfront property residing along the Nantucket Sound was once home to Joseph P. Kennedy, his wife Rose, and their children, including former president John. F Kennedy and U.S. Senators Robert F. Kennedy and Edward F. Kennedy.

Often called the “Summer White House,” the compound served as the primary base of JFK’s presidential campaign. Unfortunately, you can’t visit the compound but you can see it from most places in Hyannis Port and learn more about the family at the Kennedy Museum on Main Street.

Founded in 1897, this private Hyannisport Golf Club near the Kennedy Compound offers an 18-hole best-in-state golf course and boasts some of the most scenic views on Cape Cod. The Kennedy family was associated with the club for years. Many invitational golf tournaments are hosted by the club. The Hyannis Yacht Club is devoted to the sport of yachting. Members enjoy access to the sea, fine dining, and engaging social opportunities. Learn about seamanship and navigation education or receive sailing and swimming instruction.

Hyannis Port is home to the Eugenia Fortes Beach, a pretty stretch of coastline and a small, residential beach that is quiet and known for its calm waters. It’s a nice place to take a walk or hunt for seashells.
