About Osterville, MA Real Estate

Affluent and exclusive seaside village with beautiful oceanfront homes and easy access to the surrounding inlet bays

One of seven villages in the town of Barnstable on Cape Cod, Osterville is a quiet and affluent oceanfront community known for its gated communities and luxurious waterfront homes. Perched right on the water, Osterville is a Mid-Cape town surrounded by five beautiful inlet bays and it’s also home to the popular, family-friendly Dowses Beach. Protected harbors and inlets offer great opportunities for fishing and boating, plus there are two full-service marinas in town.

Osterville’s proximity to the water is one of its most appealing traits, especially since the village is known for having slightly warmer water temperatures than elsewhere on the Cape. Residents enjoy boating through the inlets to see stunning views, in addition to water-skiing and swimming in the bay. While a primarily residential community, Osterville does offer a small business district and appealing Main Street lined with art galleries, restaurants and boutiques.

What to Love

  • Beautiful oceanfront homes, many of which were constructed in the 19th-century
  • Easy access to the water, surrounded by inlet bays with small ponds, marshes, and beaches throughout the village
  • Small village with lots of character and a family-friendly atmosphere

People & Lifestyle

Besides being a world-class vacation destination offering golf, tennis, yachting, and many cultural events, Osterville is known for its quintessential Cape Cod lifestyle. With its central location in Mid-Cape, it’s convenient to get to and from Hyannis, where you’ll find the airport, buses, and ferries that will take you to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard.

Osterville homes are highly coveted for their exclusivity and high-end gated communities. Whether you want a charming Cape Cod-style house or a multi-million dollar custom-built estate perched on the water, there are plenty of options to choose from for a vacation home or even a permanent residence.

There is also plenty to do here with the unique access to the waterways a particularly appealing attribute. It’s just as easy to bicycle through town along the quiet roads toward downtown as it is to walk down to the beach and go fishing off the jetty or the pier at Dowses Beach. Ocean views, waterfront homes, and a quaint downtown combine to make Osterville a truly desirable place to live.

Dining, Shopping & Entertainment

If you’re planning a beach day, Fancy’s Market is a great local spot to grab a sandwich to take with you. This local market provides everything from fresh produce and prepared foods to beer and wine. Previously voted Cape Cod’s best fish market, Osterville Fish Market is a highly-rated seafood establishment serving the freshest local fish and shellfish.

Step into the Italian countryside at the rustic eatery Crisp on Osterville’s Main Street for wood-fired flatbread pizzas and homemade pasta dishes. Then grab an after-dinner dessert at Gone Chocolate, a family-run gourmet chocolate and ice cream parlor that has been in business for more than 20 years. You’ll definitely want to sample their homemade churros and famous açaí.

Things to Do

Osterville is home to two private country clubs: Oyster Harbors on Grand Island and the historic Wianno Golf Club in the southern part of town on a bluff overlooking the Nantucket Sound. Oysters Harbor was first established in 1926 while Wianno has been around since the late 1800s. The clubs offer private 18-hole golf courses, tennis facilities, and private beach access.

Oyster Harbors hosts the annual Siobhan Leigh Kinlin Memorial Golf Tournament, a charity golf tournament and fundraiser for the National Alliance on Mental Illness, in memory of Siobhan Leigh Kinlin.

Osterville residents love visiting the spacious Armstrong-Kelley Park, maintained by the Cape Cod Horticultural Society. This free, public park is known for its carefully-planned gardens and walkways where flowers are in bloom year-round.
